Indian Lake, NY

Indian Lake Campground

Day of traveling through beautiful mountains, lakes, and historical old towns.

Travels in NY between stay points bring many treasured old towns

Today's travel was long but we enjoyed new places and people. As we left Watkins Glen we went through Finger Lake falls in the Finger Lake National Park. We passed farms with old grain silos, horses, farms, and vineyards. We drove by the Montezuma Wildlife Conservation area and proceeded on until we arrived at Auburn, NY.

Auburn is full of rich history including the home of Harriet Tubman, a reformation activist that we learned about at the Lincoln Presidential Library. Look her up if you want a good read. The historical, grand homes must have seen so very much history unfold in them.

We parked the NoBo in Skaneateles, NY only to have difficulty with the pay machine. Thank goodness a sweet young woman named Alexia came to our rescue 😊 Lunch at Clover's Diner was delicious and our waitress Kimberly was amazing. Albert make many new friends. Try their homemade tuna melt and New England clam chowder if you're ever in town.

We motored on, up and down mountains passing many lakes and resorts. Some are even for snow skiing and snowmobile adventures. We also passed through the Hamlet of Lake Pleasant.

One more stop for firewood and then, just before dark, we arrived at Indian Lake! Just in time to get the heater going with the temperatures dropping into the 30s.

Today greeted us at 36 degrees so Kevin built a big fire in the fire pit and cooked breakfast on the Blackstone griddle. Bacon and French toast started the day. We enjoyed a relaxing day out by the fire pit and inside the heated camper. The Razorbacks didn't do good against Georgia so we went into the small town of Indian Lake. What a treasure trove we found!

First a stop at the Fine's Country Store, a real old fashioned general store to include creaking steps. We found everything we were looking for and more. I found a great hoodie and Kevin a tee shirt. We both under packed a little for this trip. They had a couple of used snowmobiles for sale were in their parking lot!

We walked down the street finding a flee market. There were stuffed animals like black bears, raccoons, and deer heads. Albert had no clue and didn't even react to them. We found several pair of snow shoes, blankets, and lots of clothing. The town is having a Moose Festival next weekend and we're sorry we will miss it!

A float plane flew by at a slow, lopping pace. Kevin says it can land on water and snow. A local lady named Casey says they get lots of snow and very cold temperatures in the winter like 45 degrees below zero windchill. Yikes, I'm glad we'll be home before winter.

Back to the camper for a spaghetti dinner, pack up the outside gear before early morning rain, and watching football.

George Puterko, the campsite owner, has been very helpful and is a veteran proudly flying his flags. We're glad we came and would surely come again if in this area.
